Debranding Religion
Mindfulness is the worst word ever invented. It's Mindlessness you seek; sunyata; emptiness.
I am the Great Sun
From a Normandy crucifix of 1632
I am the great sun, but you do not see me,
I am your husband, but you turn away.
I am the captive, but you do not free me,
I am the captain but you will not obey.
I am the truth, but you will not believe me,
I am the city where you will not stay.
I am your wife, your child, but you will leave me,
I am that God to whom you will not pray.
I am your counsel, but you will not hear me,
I am your lover whom you will betray.
I am the victor, but you do not cheer me,
I am the holy dove whom you will slay.
I am your life, but if you will not name me,
Seal up your soul with tears, and never blame me.
The concept of mindfulness is derived from the three core principles of Buddhism.
The three core principles of Buddhism are as follows:
Anicca - nothing lasts forever. Said another way, Heraclitus believed that the only thing we could know to be true was change itself.
Anatta - there is no self. Said another way, your self is a farce created by culture.
Nirvana - the joy of completely extinguishing our ideas and concepts. Said another way, symbols represent reality but are not reality itself.
So shut the fuck up about mindfulness. You’re words are of no use here.
Whereof we cannot speak; we must pass over in silence.
Wittgenstein
Sunyata means emptiness. Emptiness is what Mindfulness is supposed to be. Shikantaza, muhfuh.
That’s it. Basically folks are rediscovering their grandparent’s religion by calling it something else so it can be cool.
Branded Religion.
